This consultation concerns the principles for forensic medical examination in asylum applications on behalf of the IND.
The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has the obligation to initiate an investigation into medical supporting evidence in cases where this is relevant to the assessment of the asylum application. This is only possible if the foreign national consents to it. Such an investigation is called Forensic Medical Examination (FMO). The FMO must be performed by independent qualified medical professionals. Given the forensic nature of the investigation, it must be carried out by forensic experts.
