Most electrotechnical and mechanical engineering installations in locks, movable bridges, weirs, pumping stations, and other water regulation works in the Maas and associated canals are approaching the end of their service life. This also applies to the IA/ICT systems for operation, which partly takes place remotely from the Bediencentrale Maasbracht. Consequently, the sensitivity to malfunctions and the risk of disruption are increasing.
